Obituary for Terrence Economy

ST. GEORGE - Terrence (Terry) Economy, 82, passed away Thursday, September 14th 2017.

Born in Rockland in 1935 of Albanian parents, Terry was a graduate of Rockland High School and Husson College. Terry had a long career at WRKD-WMCM radio station in Rockland, where he worked his way from salesman to sales manager and to general manager. He was president of the Rockland Chamber of Commerce in 1966. In 1982 he was awarded the Maine Broadcaster of the Year Award and in 1993 he was inducted into the Maine Broadcasters Hall of Fame. After his career in broadcasting he owned and operated a direct mail advertising company and co-owned the independent local cable TV station Knox Tv. Most recently Terry had been writing stories about his experiences growing up in Rockland and his family's store, Economy Fruit and Produce. He had many stories published in local papers and on line. Rockland history, New England sports and old movies were some of his favorite interests. Terry was a kind, soft spoken family man who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Evalyn, his son Mac, his grandchildren TJ Economy and Ryan Economy and his sister Virginia Cantara.

A memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sussman House, C/O Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
