Obituary for Mary Arden Clark

ROCKLAND – Mary A. Clark, 80, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Monday, September 11, 2017.

Born June 2, 1937, in Greenport, Long Island, NY, to Reginald and Una Larson Webb. Graduated Greenport High School, 1955. L.P.N. from University of the State of New York, 1962. Married John F. Clark July 16, 1960, and settled on Shelter Island, NY. As a young girl, Mary was taught to play the piano and organ by her mother. She developed a great love of music that glorified God and used her talent as pianist and organist in churches she attended. Mary was well known for her hospitality and industry: raising three children, opening her home to many others, preserving her own food and sewing for her family, caring for her aging parents, as well as housekeeping in other homes and businesses on the island.

Mary and John moved to Maine following his retirement from South Ferry in 1998. Continuing to use her gift of hospitality they opened a bed and breakfast in Camden and served the Savior faithfully at Cornerstone Baptist Church. She took great interest in her grandchildren and was extremely involved in their lives. Her pastor comments, “She was a strong woman with a vibrant faith who’s focus and desire was that her children succeed in whatever the Lord would have them to do. Mary will be sadly missed by her family, church, and community. Because of her trust in Jesus Christ and not her own good deeds for salvation, her family is assured by God’s Word she is in heaven with the Lord.

Predeceased by her husband in 2000; daughter Laurie Morin in 2012; and sister Margot Clark in 2016, Mary is survived by her sons, John Clark and his wife Judith of South Thomaston, Todd Clark and his wife Charlotte of Warren; eight grandchildren, Ian, Hannah, Hope, and Lincoln Clark, Nathanael, Joel, and Charis Morin, Justin Morin and his wife Brielle; one great-granddaughter Autumn Morin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Memorial Service with Reception will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 164 Cobb Road, Camden. Private Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Camden.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the mission ministries of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
