THOMASTON — Marjorie Aldana Noyes Young, 92, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at home, with family by her side, after a short illness. Throughout her illness, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was always the first to say what a wonderful life she'd had.

Born in Rockport Sept. 12, 1924, she was the daughter of Edward R. Noyes, a dealer in antiques, and Flora A. Davis Noyes, a school teacher from Lubec.

Marjorie attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1943. The 10th child in a family of 13 and growing up during the Depression in Rockport, she worked within the community to help with family expenses.

To assist the war effort during World War II, Marjorie and two sisters traveled to Bridgeport, Conn. They were employed by Chance Vought Aircraft, and worked on building the Corsair, an American fighter aircraft. Following her employment in Bridgeport, she moved to Portland and attended beautician school. After graduating from beautician school, Marjorie moved back to Camden and opened a beauty salon with a partner. She worked at the salon until meeting the love of her life, Douglas Young, at a dance in Rockport. They were married June 28, 1947, and enjoyed 67 years together.

They traveled all over the world, with several trips to Europe. They would also spend most of their Saturdays going out dancing. They were always the last ones off the floor. Saturday was the day they would hop in their car and take off to enjoy their date night, visiting family or trying a new restaurant. They always enjoyed each others company, and were true soulmates.

Marjorie had an eye for fashion, and it was present in her home, cooking and style of dress. She loved decorating her home, it was her niche.

Marjorie was quite the artist and was a member of the St. George Art Group, where she won first prize in the Merchants Showcase Art Exhibit at the Maine Lobster Festival in 1984.

She loved and enjoyed all of her family, which included her children, Bradford Young and his wife, Janie, of Cumberland, Noreen Libby and her husband, David, of St. George; her grandchildren, Caleb Hall and his wife, Angie, of Rockland, Jarod Hall and his wife, Nicole, of Windham, Elise Marine and her husband, Chris, of Cumberland, and Carolyn Young and her partner, Ted Gill, of Portland; her great-grandchildren, Hannah and Curtis Hall, Michael and Harper (Marjorie) Hall, were also very special to her.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Douglas.

A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, with a reception immediately following the service.
