SOUTH THOMASTON – Steven D. Grierson, Sr., 68, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at his home with his family at his side, following an extended illness.
Born in Rockland, May 26, 1949, he was the son of William F., Sr. and Frances Fuller Grierson. While growing up, he lived with his family in St. George, Owls Head and South Thomaston. He attended St. George Schools and was a 1967 graduate of Georges Valley High School in Thomaston.
Steven was first employed at FMC Marine Colloids in Rockland and later as a janitor at Thomaston Grammar School, Lura Libby School and Georges Valley High School. For several years he worked as a deputy sheriff with Knox County Sheriff’s Department. He drove truck with Rockland Fruit & Produce Company several years. For the past 28½ years, Steven worked as a U.S. Mail Contractor, retiring last February due to ill health.
August 25, 1985, he married Karen J. Dennison.
Steven was devoted to his family. As well, he enjoyed horseback riding and for many years participated in area horse shows. He also enjoyed drag racing at Winterport Dragstrip, fishing and hunting, and attending all the local fairs where he most enjoyed looking at the tractors.
Other than his parents, Steven was pre-deceased by a sister, Jo-Ann Drinkwater in 2016. Besides his wife Karen of South Thomaston, he is survived by his children, Steven D. Grierson, Jr. and his wife Sherri of Cushing, Lisa F. Kelly and her husband Brian of Limestone, Stacy L. Grierson and her fiancé Ronald Moulton of Warren, Dallas Cross of South Thomaston, Dylan Cross of Boston, Dalton Cross of Warren; a brother, William F. Grierson, Jr. and his wife Mary Kate of Owls Head; a sister, Holly O’Donoghue and her husband John of South Thomaston; grandchildren including Taryn, Alicia, David, Brandyn and Steven; 19 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Michael Paulsen and Jason Paulsen, as well as other extended family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 23rd. Pastor Chris Emery of the Spruce Head Community Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ocean View Cemetery, Spruce Head Road, South Thomaston.
