Obituary for Elsie York

ROCKLAND - Elsie J. York, 83, died peacefully, Monday, July 24, 2017 at Windward Gardens in Camden, following a period of declining health. While a patient at Windward Gardens, she participated in the daily activities there. She was loved by the staff and other residents there.

She was born in St. George, April 10, 1934, she was the daughter of Wesley and Lena Morris Mills. Educated locally, she was a 1952 graduate of St. George High School.

On July 1, 1962, she married James B. York. Together they had resided in Rockland until his passing in 2000.

For many years Elsie was employed by M.S.A.D. # 5 in the kitchen. She was a constant smiling face for all the children she met. Together with her husband, she enjoyed going to car races. She loved to go out to dinner and shopping. She was an immaculate housekeeper and excellent cook. In her later years, she enjoyed many years as a resident at Eliza Steele Drive in Rockland with her many friends that became like family to her.

Predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Arthur Mills, Mary Francis Philbrook, Ida Mae Philbrook-Hupper and Grace Conway; Elsie is survived by her sister Pearl Farmer of Georgia, and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew and his wife, Ron and Joyce Philbrook of Owls Head. She is also survived by her husband's son James York and his wife Kathy of Owls Head.

Ron and Jo would like to thank the wonderful staff of Windward Gardens and Coastal Hospice for making her last year so very happy.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 at Seaside Cemetery, Tenants Harbor. The Reverend Ken Dale will officiate.

Arrangements are in care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
