ST. GEORGE – Dianne V. Buchanan, 74, or ‘Miss B’, as she was affectionately referred to by many of her students; died peacefully, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Millinocket December 9, 1942, she was the daughter of Malcolm V. and Lucille Barker Buchanan. She was raised in Brownville Junction, where she graduated from Brownville Junction High School. She then attended and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono.

Her first teaching job was at Searsport High School. After moving to this area, she taught Eighth Grade English for 35 years at Thomaston Grammar School. She saw the potential in her students and work hard to help them see and achieve that potential. Since her death many former students have remarked how Miss B’ impacted their lives in a positive.

Dianne loved science, literature, art, and music. She was knowledgeable in each of the areas and enjoyed a conversation about any of them.

Predeceased by her parents and aunt Thelma Malone with whom she had a special relationship, Miss Buchanan is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Brenda Buchanan; nieces Erin Buchanan, Megan Buchanan; great-nephew, Jacob Buchanan all of New York state; aunt Margaret Gallant; cousin Steve Gallant and his family all of Deloniga, Georgia; her partner, Marilee Robinson and her three sisters; and her constant furry friends, Finn, Henry, Dule Jane and Emmett.

A special thank you to Pat ‘Trish’ Smith for guiding Dianne and Marilee through their last adventure together.
Miss Buchanan will be interred with the Barker family in Millinocket. Donations are suggested to the St. George Ambulance & Firefighters Association, P. O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860, or to the humane society of one’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with Miss Buchanan’s family, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
