Obituary for William W. "Gimp" Eustis

Print
ROCKLAND – William W. Eustis, 86, passed away peacefully, July 14, 2017, at his residence with his family by his side. William, better known as Gimp by his grandchildren and family, was born January 30, 1931, in Dixfield, the son of William and Bertha Eustis.
After graduating from Dixfield High School in 1949, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1953, having earned the rank of Sergeant. He spent 11 months in combat in Korea and was the recipient of the Purple Heart as well as other medals.
He met the love of his life, Jill Tweedie, at the University of Maine where he graduated in 1958 with a B.A. in Sociology. He married Jill in Yarmouth, September 4, 1958.
After working more than 30 years with the Social Security Administration, he retired in 1988 as manager of the Rockland Social Security Office.
When Gimp wasn’t chasing squirrels out of the yard, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Jill, spending time with fellow Lion’s Club friends, as well as making and fixing clocks that are hanging throughout his home. He loved to get his usual small coffee with one ice cube every day, when he could spend time with his family members and friends. Gimp often went out to dinner for his favorite dish, lemon pepper salmon, making a lasting impression by leaving bowtie folded dollar bills as tips.
Gimp was pre-deceased by his loving wife Jill in 2000. He is survived by his three children, Sheryl E. Frisco of Thousand Oaks, CA, William T. Eustis and his wife Jeanne, Carol M. Eustis all of Rockland; his six grandchildren, Courtney A. Frisco of Thousand Oaks, CA, Jason M. Frisco of Portland, William J. Eustis of Rockland, Christopher J. Eustis of Bangor, Will K. Eustis of Warren, Jesse A. Eustis of Rockland; his three great-grandchildren, Madyson, Miley and Kynsley, as well as a niece Kim Finethy and nephew Craig Finethy.
Family services will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
