ROCKLAND – Marcel E. Ward, 65, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at his home, with his family at his side, after a brief illness.

Born in Belfast, November 1, 1951, he was the son of Richard E. and Alice Barnes Ward. At an early age, Marcel moved with his parents to Port Clyde, where he began school. They later moved to Portland.

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served four years during the Vietnam War.
While home on leave, Marcel was visiting in Rockland where he met and fell in love with Susan Proctor. The couple were married on December 9, 1972 in Rockland. Together they made their home in Warren for 20 years before returning to Rockland where they lived the rest of their married lives.

For more than 20 years Marcel worked as a ‘saw man’ at National Sea Products. Always a hard worker, he spent the next 12 years employed as a welder at Bath Iron Work.

Marcel enjoyed being a member of Heavens Blend Gospel Band. After receiving the Lord as his Savior in 2012, Marcel was thrilled to be baptized with his wife and mother-in-law, who was 84 at that time.

He was a loving, caring individual who was always compassionate to the less fortunate. His family was his number one priority in life and he loved them all deeply. He had a special relationship that he cherished with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil and June Morris. Marcel also had a special place in his heart for his church family. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by a brother Ernest Ward; Marcel is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Susan Ward of Rockland; his sons, Richard L. Ward, Sr. and his companion Brittany Prock of Rockland, Michael Ward and his wife Connie of South Thomaston, Richard L. Ward, Jr. and his girlfriend Jane of Union; his daughter Marci Lammey and her husband Herman of San Diego, CA; his brothers, Rodney Ward and his wife Mary, Jeffrey Ward and his wife Linda all of Brunswick, Tim Ward of Harpswell; seven grandchildren, Marcel, Mason, Levi, Avery, Ayda, Gage and Starsha, as well as many niece and nephews.

A celebration of Marcel’s life will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Waldoboro Word of Life Church. Pastor Tom Rawley will officiate.
