ROCKPORT - Thomas Levasseur, 71, died Friday, June 23rd, 2017, at the Sussman House in Rockport with his family at his side.
Born in Brattleboro, Vermont April 30, 1946, he was the son of Richard J. Levasseur Sr. and Elizabeth Flood Levasseur. He grew up in Brattleboro, and graduated from St. Michael's Academy in 1964. He attended the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of X-Ray Technique, receiving his X-Ray Technician’s certificate in 1966.
As an x-ray technician he met Beryl Hellen, a nursing student. They were married October 7, 1967, in Newton, New Hampshire. The Levasseur’s made their first home in Methuen, Massachusetts, before moving to Salem, New Hampshire. In 1971 they moved to South Thomaston, in 1990 to Owl's Head, and to Rockport in 2001.
In the 1970's he was active in the Jaycees, and the Maine Seafood's Festival (now known as the Lobster Festival), and was president of the festival in 1979.
In the mid-1970s he was the proprietor of a service station, Park Street Shell, which had been on the corner of Park Street and Broadway. In the late 1970s into the early 1980s he worked in lobster wholesaling, from trucking lobsters to restaurants and markets, to sales, to management.
In 1984, he co-founded Electrotech, Inc., an electrical assembly company in Rockland with his wife Beryl, who was working in the industry. Tom served as President of the corporation until his death, although in recent years he had left day to day operations of the business to his children, Shawn Levasseur and Angela Caverly.
From the 1990s, Tom turned his hobby of stamp collecting into a part-time business, Thomas Levasseur Philatelic Services, when he acquired the inventory of a stamp dealer, and became a vendor frequenting many stamp shows throughout the northeast U.S. He remained active in this business until his death.
In 2001, with their move to Rockport, Tom and Beryl acquired a wild blueberry field which they kept in production, and were involved in the biennial harvesting until health kept them from it. It stays in production with the help of family members.
He was an avid golfer, and had served several years on the board of the Rockland Golf Club, and served as Treasurer and President of the club.
With his wife, he enjoyed traveling, often visiting Jamaica and Las Vegas.
Beryl preceded him with her death on May 11, 2015.
Thomas is survived by one son, Shawn Levasseur of Rockland; one daughter, Angela M. Caverly, her husband Todd of Union; and Todd and Angela's children, Carl, Levi and Helen Caverly of Union, and Jon Munroe of Delaware.
He is also survived by his brother, Richard Levasseur of Bay Harbor Island's, Florida, and Richard’s children, Nicole Prentiss of South Thomaston, David Levasseur of California, Sharon Levasseur of Virginia, and Douglas Levasseur of Georgia.
