SOUTH THOMASTON – Harold Rogers, 85, died peacefully, following an extended illness, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Ayer, Massachusetts, May 3, 1932, he was the son of Edmund and Marion Vasselin Rogers. Educated in Massachusetts he attended Westford Schools.

Following high school, Harold joined the U.S. Navy, serving four years during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning to the States, Harold married Jeanne Barker in Ayer, Mass. Together they made their home in Groton where Harold was employed as an electrician for 10 years. He was also a member of the Westford, MA American Legion.

Always interested in computers and electronics, Harold attended night school after working a full day, coming home only for a quick dinner with his family. He eventually earned his associates degree in Computer Programming.

With his new degree under his belt, Harold went to work for Purity Foods, hired by the company’s owner. He stayed on with the company through five owner changes, retiring in 1997 after more than 30 years of employment.

After retirement, Harold and Jeanne relocated to Maine, a place they had vacationed for many years. While their home was being built they enjoyed the community of Cushing. During this time they began attending the Broad Cove Community Church. Harold fell in love with the church and community and he dedicated many hours of his time and talents to various church projects. Even after moving into their beloved home in South Thomaston, Harold and Jeanne continued attending Broad Cove Church.

Harold was a kind and gentle man, who was always trying to help others. Even in the last hours of his life, he offered to help the staff at the hospital in order to make their job of caring for him a bit easier.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne of South Thomaston; his children, Benjamin Rogers, Renee JeffersonTaite, Jennifer Brown; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Hannah of Australia, James of Florida; one great-grandson, Jackson also of Florida; and two brothers, George and William Rogers of Westford Mass.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Broad Cove Community Church, 87 Pleasant Point Road, Cushing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broad Cove Community Church, 87 Pleasant Point Road, Cushing, ME 04563.
