Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Alan. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

One of the most considerate and honest men, we have ever met. Both Alan and Diane treated us like family with welcoming smiles every time we returned to The Landings on Seal of Approval and when we approached BIG DECISION for an evening drink. Life at The Landings won't be quite the same without your stories. Missing you as we approach our launch date June 12. Rest in peace dear friend.

I am heartbroken to hear of Alan's passing. He moved my boat every year for over 20 years. He was highly skilled and utterly dependable. He could perform miracles with his rig! He was someone I considered a dear friend. I will never forget the year my cat rode in the cab with us, paw on the gear stick. She loved her boat. I never realized that Alan shared my birthday. My heart goes out to all his family and friends. You will be greatly missed Alan.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Alan. As well as knowing most of his family, I have known Alan for a long time. He was a hard worker, and was proud of his business. Alan enjoyed his family life and beautiful home, and even though enjoyed his privacy, always welcomed company and made them feel at home. May he rest in peace.

We are heartbroken to learn of Alan's untimely passing, far short of his years. We enjoyed his cheerful and often comical manner in handling our little sloop for so many years. Alan was always accommodating for our launch and haul schedule, and we loved hearing his rig's approach down Mechanic Street in all seasons for the swing down Snow Street to the south end ramp. It was a simple holler and a hey to get his attention, and to get on his busy schedule. It only took 20 minutes for our boat to "get wet", and then he waited while we checked below to be sure the water shutoff was tight! He will be sorely missed! We count him as one special fellow in our boating life, and always hearing of his treasured Daytona trips!

Alan was certainly a legend.

I learned over the years that he was never late for an appointment but always early. I used to show up 15 minutes early for a haul, but he would be there....the next year I was 30 minutes early....he was there waiting. This past fall, I tried 45 minutes - but Alan was, as always waiting and ready to go.

Alan was enormously competent, meticulous and I must say fearless in his work. Very few can appreciate the care and skill he brought to his profession.

Alan will be sorely missed by his hundreds of loyal customers. He was simply the best.
