OWLS HEAD – Alan N. Drinkwater, 63, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side, Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, April 3, 1954, Alan was the son of Kenneth and Margaret Norman Drinkwater. While attending Rockland High Alan worked for Charlie Crockett at his local gas station. Later he began lobstering with his father before beginning an 11 year career at Marine Colloids.

In 1984 Alan bought Drinkwater Boat Transport Company from his father. He worked tirelessly and became ‘the man’ in the mid-coast area for boat transportation. He was loved by many of his clients for his patience, skill and knowledge. He was truly a legend in the boating world.

Alan was an avid NASCAR fan and for 25 years enjoyed attending the Daytona 500.

When he wasn’t working, Alan enjoyed boating on the weekend with his boating family or just hanging out on the dock at the Landings Marina.

Alan loved being at his home in Owls Head where he enjoyed the wildlife and nature. He often referred to this as his ‘private paradise’.

Alan was a kind, caring, loving man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by many.

Predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Margaret Drinkwater; a brother Clyde Drinkwater and a nephew Ryan Birch; Alan is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Drinkwater of Owls Head; his sisters, Karen Thompson and her husband Peter, Patricia Birch all of Spruce Head; two step-daughters, Ramona Campbell and her companion Uno Ilvonen, Maria Archer all of Owls Head; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
