Obituary for Gloria Marie Kennison (Venezia)

Gloria Marie Kennison (Venezia)
ROCKLAND – Gloria M. Venezia Kennison, 80, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Knox Center in Rockland, following a period of declining health. Born in Rockland, June 1, 1936, she was the middle daughter of Luigi and Elvira DeTori Venezia. She attended local schools.
As a young woman she worked at Cross’s Drug Store where she met the love of her life, Ronald L. Kennison. They were married in Rockland, March 3, 1955. The couple first lived on Camden Street, then on Lisle Street, before purchasing her childhood home, where Gloria and her two sisters were born. Gloria and Ronald lived all their married lives in Rockland, where they raised their daughter Roxann.
Early in her married life, Gloria worked at various jobs including Perry’s Market as a cashier, as a seamstress at Van Baalen’s for eight years; at Senter Crane where she worked as a clerk and often ran the elevator, and as a Produce Clerk at Ted’s Sav-Mor, all in Rockland.
In 1968 & 1969, with her husband, she owned and operated Roadside Antiques in Warren. She found great pleasure in working side-by-side in that antique business with her husband. The Kennison’s frequently enjoyed trips out west to visit Gloria’s mother and two sisters, first in California and later in Nevada.
Gloria skills encompassed anything domestic, creative and garden related. Anything to which she set her hand, she accomplished with patience, precision and excellence.
Her creativity was expressed through cake decorating for family and friends; finely developed craft-making which included Christmas gifts and teddy bears; upholstering furniture; repairing antique dolls and picture frames as well as anything that needed repair; duplicating many crafts from pictures she had seen in a catalog or book; crocheting doilies and keeping an immaculate home.
She kept impeccable gardens, lawns and hedges, and had become recognized as ‘the lady with the perfect hedges on Pleasant Street.”
Gloria’s family extends special thanks to Gloria’s niece Donna Emery, close family friend Joyce Maxcy, Dr. Kahn and the staff at Knox Center Skilled Rehabilitation Unit for all their loving care and attention during Gloria’s last days.
Other than her parents, Gloria was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ronald in 2001, two sisters, Carrie Kelly and Aida Venezia, as well as her sister-in-law, Rebecca Dyer. She is survived by her daughter Roxann M. Williams and her husband Ted of Rockport.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 26, 2017, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Dr. Susan Stonestreet will officiate. A reception will follow at the funeral home’s 104 Limerock reception center.
