Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Donald. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

I will miss Don and always enjoyed our conversations. I was fascinated listening to his stories about The Camden Tannery, where he worked with my Grandfather, Pinky. Don was a fascinating man who had no problem telling it like it is. My condolences to Don's family and friends. Don made this world a better place and I am grateful to have known him.

Of course, like everyone else who knew Don Frye, I'm saddened by his passing. I worked in the Camden-Rockport Schools with Don but most enjoyed encountering him in the Maritime Farms store where we could enjoy coffee and a little conversation. Don had stories but he also listened. As one who moved to Maine, I counted on folks like Don to "tell me like it is." Don wasn't shy about doing so.

Of all the experiences that we shared in our professional capacities, I believe that the annual Memorial Day Parades were the most important point in our connection. Through Don and the men and women associated with the American Legion on Pearl Street, generations of Camden-Rockport HS Band members learned important lessons about the ultimate sacrifice, the importance of ceremony, and the meaning of Orel Ward's "Lest we forget." Don and his Legion colleagues always put on a fine lunch for the Band at noon on Memorial Day (teenagers remembers who feeds them!).

Thank you, Don, for teaching me about what real Mainers were all about and about the need for us to teach our children some of the most important lessons about being a citizen of the United States. I'll miss you, my friend...
