Georgianna's Birth

I was not quite 5 years old, but I recall being woken up early, at the crack of dawn, to the smells of a breakfast only Daddy could cook: eggs, bacon, beans, potato hash...enough to choke a horse. I had never seen Daddy so excited... we had a new sister named Georgianna after his mother. I can still see him, in a flannel shirt and work pants, standing over the stove will all the burners going. Mamma's labor had started after we went to bed, so he'd called on a neighbor to stay with us and he was back before we knew they were gone...a big surprise to wake up to!

I think Daddy's enthusiasm rubbed off on me because later in the day I was out side playing and just could not contain my excitement about my baby sister any more. Her's was a special name and we already knew about the promise made to Grammie Georgianna to name a baby girl after her and they now had that girl. I loved that name, loved saying it, and on that day I started running up and down the street hollering "Georgianna!" at the top of my voice....until a grumpy neighbor hollered out the window to tell me to shut up. Oh you were loved, G.
