Poems she wrote

The Worker One bright day as I did pass Along an old dirt road, A weary worker did I see, Behind a heavy load. He was behind an ancient plow Turning o’er the soil And not a moment did he pause Though it was tiresome toil. As I watched this diligent man Working at his task He turned around and smiled at me And with his smile I asked, “Sir, I’ve watched you for hours two, And during all this while Numerous mishaps have I seen But you’ve never lost your smile. Now may I be so bold to ask A questioned I have wondered: What keeps you happy all the day?” And on my thought he pondered. Regarding me with thoughtful frown These few words he said, “My children have gone from the narrow path, And my wife has long been dead. Of afflictions I’ve had many, But I look to God and see, That in His way of truth and life, There is a place for me. And as I work the whole day through I think of Jesus’ life, And if a burden falls on me, I smile away the strife.” So as I walked on home that day Just one thought came to me. If that was an example true, Then just like that, I’d be. 7-21-1983 GMM
