CAMDEN – Bernice K. ‘Bea’ Newbegin, 93, died peacefully, with her daughter at her side, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, November 5, 1923, she was the daughter of Jesse O. and Ethel Dodge Linscott. Educated locally she was a 1942 graduate of Rockland High School.

Following high school, Bea married Richard C. Newbegin in Rockland on October 23, 1944. Together they made their home in Rockland their entire married life. Bea spent most of her life as a homemaker, devoted to the needs of her family. Over the years she did hold a few jobs in local businesses including, New England Telephone Company, Crocketts Five and Ten, Woolworths and Economy’s.

She was an accomplished gardener, keeping beautiful flower gardens around her home. She enjoyed bird watching and caring for animals both wild and domestic. Always crafty, she kept busy with embroidery work, and her daughter remembers she was an excellent cook. For many years, Bea and Dick loved to kick back and go dancing on Saturday nights. She was also a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Predeceased by her brothers, an infant, Jesse, Jr. and Loy Linscott and his wife Evelyn; and an aunt Adelma Bowes; Bea is survived by her daughter, Brenda Genthner and her husband Donald of Rockland; her granddaughter, Desiree Genthner of Wiscasset; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
