Nana's Garden

Dear Erik and Jessica,

I'm so sorry to hear your Mom passed. She was such an integral part of the community, and for so many years.

The personal memory I have - I spent a great deal of my childhood at my grandmother's house in Dog Town. She had a small garden adjacent to the driveway. Small. Even as a kid I could have pretty easily thrown a rock from one side to the other and it was fairly square.

Almost every year, your Mom would drive her tractor all the way to Dog Town, to turn the soil for Nana. For some nominal fee that I'm sure might have covered her gas expense.  I always saw her as contributing so much, and asking so little.

She was so many things. Strong, independent, but soft-spoken, not overbearing. I'm sure she wasn't perfect to you - Mothers never are - but I'm sure you are old enough to know what a wonderful person she was. She must have loved seeing you both become parents and having grandchildren. A life so well-lived.

Peace and love-

Shelly
