Obituary for Albert Irving Payson

Albert Irving  Payson
ROCKLAND – Albert I. Payson, 90, died, Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.

Born in Owls Head, October 6, 1926, he was the son of Harry I. and Ida Marshall Payson. He started school at the one room Ingraham Hill School. Albert began high school in Rockland with the class of 1945. His academic life was interrupted by his service with the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1947.

He married Audrey Hooper at Rockland, June 17, 1951. The couple made their home in Owls Head, Rockland, South Portland and later returned to Rockland.

Albert lobstered out of Spruce Head more than 20 years. He later worked 18 years as a machinist with General Electric Corporation in South Portland.

Albert’s family said that although he was a man of few words, he could express his love for them through a simple touch.

He loved being on the water and enjoyed fishing trips with his son.

Besides his wife of 65 years Audrey, Albert is survived by his son Robert M. Payson, both of Rockland; his daughter Janet Kemberling of South Portland; his sister Vera Mathieson of Owls Head; four grandchildren, Nhare Payson, Molly Warren, Lindsy Fournier, Bryan Kemberling and four great-grandchildren, Samuel, Nevaeh, Ryker and Luke, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Ingraham Cemetery, Freedom Drive, Owls Head. The Reverend Seth D. Jones will officiate.
