ROCKLAND – Blanche M. Widdecomb, 92, passed away peacefully Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Sussman House in Rockport. Born in St. George, August 3, 1924, she was the daughter of Edward and Sarah Chaples. She was a graduate of the St. George High School class of 1943.

Blanche made her home in Rockland, where she raised two daughters. She worked for 21 years at van Baalen Pacific Corporation as a seamstress before retiring in 1986. She remained active in her church and community, attending First Baptist church of Rockland where she was a deaconess for several years. She also taught Sunday School, volunteered for Bible School, and played piano for the men’s Sunday School. For over a decade she donated countless hours of her time knitting lap robes for Pen Bay Medical Center, and loved to knit mittens for children.

She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Blanche is survived by her two daughters, Joyce Young and Janice Kelley, both of Rockland; brother, Byron Chaples, of Plainville, CT; sister Doris Jacobson of Rockland; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. A graveside service will be held at Achorn Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are in care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home of Rockland.
