Obituary for Muriel Ruth Madore (Downs)

Muriel Ruth Madore (Downs)
CAMDEN – Muriel D. Madore, 90, entered into the presence of her Savior, Friday, January 27, 2017, at her Merry Gardens home.

Born in Harmony, Maine, September 6, 1926, she was one of six children of Daniel F., Sr. and Grace M. Hall Downs. Educated in local schools, she was a 1944 graduate of Harmony High School.

On October 25, 1945 she married Russell L. Madore in Harmony. The Madore’s made their home in Pittsfield until 1950, and lived one year in Skowhegan. They next moved to Harmony, where they resided until moving to Glen Cove in 1968.

Prior to the birth of her children, Muriel worked as a stitcher at MedWed Shoe Company in Pittsfield.

After raising her children through their early childhood, she returned to work with the Sandler Shoe Company in Harmony. From 1968 to 1971, Muriel and Russell were dorm parents at Glen Cove Christian Academy. Then from 1971 to 1979 she served as Hostess for Glen Cove Christian Schools, Inc., training students in waitressing and hospitality.
Muriel also attended Glen Cove Bible School as a student, earning 10 credit hours.

For a time, with her husband, Muriel resided in Thomaston, where they shared a home with their younger daughter, Lorelei and her family. For several years the Madore’s were active members of First Baptist Church of Rockland, where Muriel was active on the Hospitality Committee, as well as, serving as secretary to pastor, Gabriel Rogers. They later attended Cornerstone Baptist Church in Camden. Most recently, Muriel attended Lakeview Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Rockport.

While Muriel's greatest passion has been sharing the love of her Lord with those around her, she was also active in her community. Some of this included being a member and participant of Concerned Maine Citizens and volunteering with the Heart Association and March of Dimes annual drives.

Other than her parents and beloved husband Russell, Muriel was pre-deceased by a sister Lydia M. Gallant. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Paul Jackson of South Thomaston, Lorelei and Randall Searls of Rockland; one brother, Daniel F., Jr. and his wife Olivia Downs of Arizona; three sisters, Joyce H. Braley of Rockland, Iris J. Fields of Brunswick, Donnice Finnemore and her husband Harry of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Justin D. Bari and his wife Meredith, Lori Jackson Powell and her husband Nicholas, Brandon R. Bari and his wife Lori, Kelly R. Searls; eleven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Abigail, Zinka, Asa, Zander, Asher, Dylan, Sabastian, Aliyah, Jayce and Leon; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Friday, February 3, 2017, at Lakeview Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 188 Rockland Street, (Rt. 17) Rockport, where a Celebration of Muriel's life will begin at 11:00 am. The Rev. Stephen Tracey will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. A committal service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Chapel of Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, ME.
