Obituary for Patricia Grace "Pat" Kelly

ROCKPORT – Patricia G. Kelly, 77, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Windward Gardens in Camden.

Born May 2, 1939 in St. Georges, Canada, she was the daughter of James Duxbury and Corinne Duxbury Simpson. She was educated in Canada, attending Catholic schools. In 1955, at the age of 16, Patricia moved with her family to the United States.

Always a social person, Pat loved going roller skating and dancing. One particular night Pat met Austin Kelly while roller skating and fell in love. The rest as they say, was history. The two were married on January 4, 1957. An accomplished seamstress, Pat helped support her family working first with Knox Woolen Mill and later with Van Baalens, all while raising a family of one daughter and four sons.

An avid reader, she read anything she could get her hands on. She also loved playing Mahjong. Even when she wasn’t working she enjoyed sewing, often making clothes for her children. She was an excellent cook and was known for her pies and spaghetti sauce. Her sons remembered everything she cooked was delicious, and they said she had a knack for cooking.

Pat was always actively involved in the lives of her children. When her boys were young she attended all of their sporting events. As they grew and their sporting careers transitioned to coaching, she continued to support their endeavors, cheering on their teams. Family was always her number one priority, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

Pat will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her husband, Austin in 2007; her daughter June Robbins; two granddaughters, sisters, Katherine ‘Katie’ and Casey Kelly; and a sister Margaret Rankin; Patricia is survived by her sons, John Kelly and his wife Terrie of Lincolnville, Gene Kelly and his companion Julie Hayden of Rockland, Patrick Kelly and his wife Catrina of Rockport, Jack Kelly and his wife Erika Lincolnville; 14 grandchildren, Sherri Carr, Holly Young, Marissa Kelly, Miranda Kelly, Matthew Laite, Justin Laite, Cody Laite, Mackenzie Kelly, Erika Beal McKay, Paige Kelly, Fiona Kelly, Keagan Kelly, Andrew Kelly, Kristina Kelly; 7 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Duxbury of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, France Jordan and her husband Barry of Carolina, RI; a brother-in-law Robert Rankin of Lincolnville; as well as many nieces, nephews and a large, loving extended family.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A reception will follow at 104 Limerock, adjacent to the funeral home. Private interment will be held in the spring.
