ROCKLAND – Joan L. Feyler, 83, died Friday, December 23, 2016, at Quarry Hill in Camden where she resided the past few years.

Born in Rockland, April 4, 1933, she was the daughter of Joseph A. and Jean Daggett Clough. Educated in local schools, she graduated from Rockland High School in 1951. On April 8th of 1952, she married Kenneth D. Feyler, Jr. in Rockland. The Feyler’s made their first home on Limerock Street, where they lived until her husband was called into active duty with the U.S. Army. For the next two years they lived at Fort Davis on the Panama Canal.

Following Mr. Feyler’s discharge from active duty, the couple settled in Rockland where they raised their family.

As well as pursuing her vocation of a wife, homemaker and mother, Joan worked several years at JJ Newberry, W.T. Grants, and J.C. Penney all in Rockland, as well as Camden Tannery Company.
For many years, Joan enjoyed spending time at the family’s cottage on Wheelers Bay in Spruce Head. She helped her husband convert that cottage to a year-round home, where they lived until moving back to Rockland in 2008. She also enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband and family at their hunting camp Downeast in Northfield.

Her greatest joy was attending the many sporting events and activities in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved.

In earlier years Joan attended the Rockland Congregational Church. She was a longtime member of the Midcoast Ladies Shrine Club.

Besides her parents, Joan was pre-deceased by her husband Kenneth in 2011; a grandson, Brandon ‘BJ’ Feyler; two siblings, Elizabeth Bartlett and William Clough. She is survived by her children, Jarrett A. ‘Jay’ Feyler and his wife Cindylou of Union, Deanna Peterson and her husband Stephen of Charlotte, NC, David K. Feyler and his wife Suzanne of Orlando, FL, Julie Waters of Rockport; five grandchildren, James Feyler, Nicholas Feyler, Matthew Feyler, Kristi Brady and Megan Moulton and five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Private services are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Midcoast Shrine Club, $100 Million Club, C/O Tom Steversen. P.O. Box 363, Jefferson, ME 04348.
