Obituary for Aggie May Copeland

Aggie May Copeland
ROCKLAND – Aggie M. Copeland, 91, went to be with her Lord & Savior, early Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.

Born in the family home on their Albion farm, January 16, 1925, she was the daughter of William N. and Ida M. Clark Copeland. Aggie attended Albion schools the first eight years of her education. After moving to South Thomaston with her family, she entered the freshman class at Rockland High School. Throughout her four years at Rockland High School, Aggie walked the six miles from her home and return trip each day, with exception of sometimes getting a ride with someone she knew. Aggie graduated with honors in 1942.

Following high school, she was employed a few years at Marine Colloids in Rockland. She began employment at the Rockland office of New England Telephone & Telegraph Company in 1945. Over the years she rose with that company to supervisor, retiring from Verizon in the late 1980s.

After retiring, she enjoyed sewing her handcrafts, which included pillows, baby clothes, towels to name a few; all sewn with the same love of detail and perfection. She sold many of these pieces at area craft fairs.

For many years Aggie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rockland, where she helped with Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Mission Committee, worked in the church’s Christian Book Store and often served in the church nursery.

Aggie’s love for her Lord, caused her to always look for ways to help others. She often transported people who were without a ride and found joy in quietly helping whenever she could.

Besides her parents, Aggie was pre-deceased by a sister Christine Copeland and two brothers, Fred E. and William H.D. Copeland. She is survived by three sisters, Fannie R. Copeland, Mildred R. Copeland both of Rockland, Helen C. Fogarty Wing of Owls Head; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, Friday, December 2, 2016, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Robert Bell will officiate. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be mad to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
