ROCKLAND – Marion F. Brackett, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 30, 2016, in Brooksville, Florida.
Born in Buckhannon, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Howard C. and Opel Fortney Hoover. After moving with her family to Ambridge, Pennsylvania, she attended area schools and graduated from Ambridge High School.
Marion met Albert Brackett while he was in the Air Force visiting in Pittsburgh. The couple married in Concord, New Hampshire on December 10, 1954. They made their home in Rockland all their married lives.
Marion was a helpmate to her husband Albert while he built their home and operated their Old County Road farm. A self-sufficient homemaker, Marion enjoyed raising her four boys and taking part in the daily operation of the farm. She readily helped with milking cows and raking hay with the tractor. She also enjoyed hosting Cub Scout meetings as a Den Mother at her home and regularly playing Bridge with her friends. On warm days, she was known to take the ‘neighborhood kids’ on the hay truck to ‘Chickie’ for a swim. Marion canned her own fresh vegetables and lived off the farm. An excellent cook, she also made many wedding cakes. As a seamstress in her earlier years, she made all her boys clothing as well as gowns for the Sea Goddess pageant.
Marion later drove several years for Coastal Trans, daily carrying folks to their appointments both locally and in Boston.
Marion’s primary joy and fulfillment was in her grandchildren and caring for her family.
Predeceased by her husband Albert earlier this year, Marion is survived by four sons and their wives, Richard A. and Lois Brackett of Brooksville, FL, Bryan L. and Judy Brackett of South Hope, Robert D. Brackett of Hope, Mark A. and Sherry Brackett of Owls Head; three grandchildren, Ashley Anne Brackett, Jacob Brackett and Jordan Brackett.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
