SPRUCE HEAD – Janice G. McGinley, 92, died peacefully, Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Brewer, September 16, 1924, she was the daughter of Fred C. and Marion F. Goss Glidden. Educated in local schools, she was a 1941 graduate of Brewer High School.

As a young woman, she worked at Miller Drug Store and Farrar Furniture, both in Bangor. On November 9, 1945, she married Pearley A. McGinley. The couple lived in Orrington all their married lives. Mr. McGinley died in 1981.

For many years she worked as a cook in the Orrington school system. She was a longtime member of the Vachti Lodge of Rebekahs in Orrington and the First United Methodist Church of Orrington. Never one to sit still, Janice enjoyed BINGO games, traveling, going on cruises and even went on a Safari in Africa.
Since moving here in 2011, she attended the Peoples United Methodist Church of South Thomaston.
Most recently, she was a resident at Quarry Hill in Camden.

Other than her parents and husband, Janice was pre-deceased by one son, Stephen McGinley; a brother Walter Glidden; a sister Lelia Elkins; one grandson Eric Bunker; and longtime friend Bud Folsom. She is survived by her brother, Robert Glidden, of Orrington; two daughters, Pamela Hooydonk and her husband Adrian of Spruce Head, Jill McGinley of Waddington, NY; 15 grandchildren including Matthew McGinley and his wife Allison, Shannon Dunavan, Kevin Bunker and his wife Amanda, Billy Vant, Sarah Lake and her husband Chris, Ruth Vant, Peter Vant, Matthew Vant and Christina, Gabrielle McGinley, Alex Hooydonk and his wife Jocelyn, Jesse Hooydonk and Erin, Ineke Dyer and her husband Tristan, Sarah Pezan and her husband Phillip, Kristen Wood and her husband Joseph, Karen Giera and her husband Steven; 18 great-grandchildren, Bryson and Nathan McGinley, Alexandra Bunker, Natalie Bunker, Benjamin and Samson Lake, Emmelia, Skylyn and Caydince Vant; Andrew Dunavan, Marley Hooydonk, Liam Dyer, Lauren Pezan, Abby and Piper Wood, Katie, Dakota and Zachary Giera; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Ray and Adele Shea and their family, Jessie, Tommy, Hannah and Abigail, and Mike and Rachel Shea and their daughter Kaitlyn.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M, Thursday, October 13, 2016, at People's United Methodist Church, Chapel Street, South Thomaston, where a service in celebration of Janice’s life will begin at 11:00 A.M. The Reverend Michelle Wiley will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment at Pine Hill Cemetery, in Orrington, will be held that same day, at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to People's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 83, South Thomaston, Maine, 04858. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
