Obituary for Alice Straub (Kilpatrick)

Alice Straub (Kilpatrick)
BANGOR - Alice Straub, 90, loving mother, grandmother and dear friend, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17, 2016. Alice was born December 3, 1925, to the proud parents of Margaret and Belford Kilpatrick.

As a teenager, Alice went to work for the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where she met her future husband, Harry N. Straub Jr. They married in June of 1947, and began their family.

Later in life, she went to work for Garlock Bearing and retired from there when she and Harry moved to St. Augustine, Florida. Besides Florida, they have lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maine. Because of declining health this summer, Alice moved in with her son in Maine.

Because of her warmth, Alice made friends wherever she went. She was always more concerned about others than herself.

In her retirement she enjoyed visits from her family, her friends at New Life Baptist Church, picnics on the St. Augustine Beach, watching movies, and eating at Barnacle Bills. She was known for her butter cookies which she made and distributed every Christmas until it got to be too difficult. The family once had a butter cookie bake off to see if her son could pick out hers and he picked hers easily! No one could duplicate the flavor of her cookies. We have had many laughs over that bake off!

Alice was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry N. Straub Jr. in 2001; her brother, Daniel Kilpatrick; and her sister, Kate Romaine. She is survived by her sisters, Marge Carey, Joan Tucker; and brother, Belford Kilpatrick and wife, Suzanne. Also, she is survived by her son, Harry N. Straub III and wife, Joyce of Hudson, Maine; daughters, Eileen LeBlanc and husband, Michael of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and Patricia Thompson and husband, Fred of Warren, Maine. She is also survived by grandchildren, Steven Straub and wife, Michele, Scott Straub and wife, Rachel, Mark Straub and wife, Ruth, Frank Morelli, Helen Hajny and husband, Ray, Russell Thompson, and Janice Cadwell and husband, Scott. Her great-grandchildren are Colby Straub, Maxwell Straub (Scott and Rachel's), Ella Straub, Mia Straub, Cara Straub (Mark and Ruth's), Camden Straub (Steven and Michele's), Katherine Hajny, Thomas Hajny, Heather Shows (Russell's), Michael Carr and Joseph Carr (Janice's). She is also survived by five great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland
