Obituary for Paul Stuart Hopkins

Paul Stuart Hopkins
NORTH HAVEN - Paul S. Hopkins, 53, died at his home on North Haven, June 3rd, 2016. Paul was born June 17th, 1962 to Emery and Marion Hopkins.

Paul was a skilled carpenter by trade, but his real passion was wood carving. He was well known for his decoys, carvings of birds, and other animals. The inspiration for his artwork came from the island. His work was collected and appreciated by islanders, summer residents, captains of industry, and U.S. Presidents.

Paul was an avid hunter. He loved to go clamming, have cook-outs at the beach, take rides around the island, and go kayaking with Sue.

Paul had a sharp quick wit, a truly good heart, and generous appreciation of all the little everyday things. Paul was a free spirit, true islander, and a real character. Paul will be missed more than we can say.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Emery and Marion Hopkins and brother Arthur Hopkins. Paul is survived by his greatly loved children, Emery Hopkins, Victor Hopkins, and Grace Hopkins; his beloved longtime companion Sue Stultz and their “peeps”; his siblings, James Hopkins, Nancy Hopkins-Davisson, Kenneth Hopkins and Mark Hopkins; his sister-in-law Pat Hopkins and his large extended family, many friends, and fans.
An island wide celebration of his life was held at Mullen’s Head beach, North Haven, on Saturday, June 11th, 2016.
