Condolences

Condolence From: Roger Berube
Condolence: My condolences to his wife Shirley and family. Norm was a good friend whom I shared our love of astronomy. I have spent more than a few evenings looking at the heavens with Norm. We marveled at the unending complexity, and beauty we observed through our telescopes. Norm, you will be missed. I will remember you when I look through my scope at the night sky.

Condolence: After a great day of ministry yesterday, with a very wonderful outcome, my wife, Becky and I, are heading to the Rockport Lakeview OPC, to attend a funeral of a gentleman I only met once, at the MMC. One of the Deacons and founding member of that Church, Mr. Norman Meyer was in for a heart situation, fixed up, went home and a few nights later passed away in his sleep.

I was asked by my good friend Patti Whitten, to visit him if I could, since their good and wonderful Pastor, Rev. Stephen Tracey, had firm commitments, and could not be here. Well, I did, and to say the least, I was so impressed with Norman's obvious walk with the Lord, and he left a deep impression on me. I felt I had instantly gained a friend, and even mentioned to Becky about riding the 'bike' there this summer to visit him and his dear wife in Rockport.

The last thing he said to me, in his pleasant way, was, "They were thinking about letting me go home today, but now I know why I didn't. It was so we could meet, and have such a wonderful visit."

How sweet were his words, and we visited for about 45 minutes, talking about our journeys in the Christian Faith. I asked my new friend, as a former Baptist, how he came to be Pado Baptist, a Presbyterian. It was an interesting and deeply fulfilling conversation, of which I will remember always.

What powerful moments our Lord gives us, in our journey through life. I am so thankful for this brief encounter, Becky and I have decided to drive 3 hours up, go to the funeral, reception, then drive 3 hours back...an all day deal, but I am certain, a blessing will be ours.

Condolence: Very sad to hear about Norman. I remember all the times he and our family had on Bowden Street. He was always smiling and laughing no matter what. I know he will be dearly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Shirley and your whole family.

Condolence: My sympathy to the Meyer family on the passing of Norman. He will be missed as husband, father, grandfather and friend. The grieving period for a lost love one is always difficult, but the memories of him will always have a joyful place in our hearts.

I first met Norman at the 1960 Palmer High School Science Fair. We were assigned science project locations next to one another. It was there that I learned about Norman's affinity for viewing the stars. He loved astronomy and I am sure that he will still view the heavens from his new vantage point.

Who knew that he would marry my sister Shirley eight years later. Norman, rest in peace.

Condolence: My heartfelt condolences to the entire Meyer family. I will always remember Norm as a kind, sensitive, and soft-spoken man dedicated to his family and faith. When he was still getting to know his future wife, Shirley, she took ill at our house on Shearer St in Palmer, MA. He took the time to stop by and visit her while she was reclining on the family couch. I knew then how kind and sensitive he was and it didn't surprise me to see them get engaged and later married. Rest in peace, Norm. You will be missed.
