SOUTH THOMASTON - Roger Maxwell Young, 70, died peacefully at his home, Friday, March 25, 2016, after a brief illness.
Roger was born in Rockland, June 9, 1945, the son of Maxwell O. and Cecelia Mitchell Young into a family of fishermen of many generations and raised on Criehaven and Matinicus. He was educated in Rockland schools, graduating from Rockland District High School in 1963, and attended Ward Technical Institute, University of Hartford. Roger married Jean M. Entwistle of Owls Head on November 26, 1966.
From 1967 to 1974, he flew his Piper Cub, spotting fish over Penobscot Bay and Captained the F/V Waveguide.
In 1974 he changed professions to be home for his family. He established Young Realty, and as a licensed Realtor, has been active in that profession as a member of the Pen Bay Board of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Realtor Grievance Committee. He owned and operated Young’s Paint Shop and established East Coast Salvage Brokerage. Roger was an active member of the Republican Party for many years and has served as Chairman of the South Thomaston Republican Committee, Program Chairman of the Knox County Republican Convention, and as a delegate to the Republican State Convention. He has recently been serving in his local community as Chairman of the South Thomaston Planning Board.
Sharing his faith in Jesus Christ was paramount in Roger’s life. He was a committed and loving family man who enjoyed hiking, canoeing, and flying his Cessna 140. Roger was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Warren where he had been serving as a Deacon for many years.
Besides his parents, Roger was pre-deceased by granddaughter Laurel and sister Beverly. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean; his children, Judith Clark and her husband John of South Thomaston, their children, Ian, Hannah, Hope, and Lincoln; Elaine Barnes and her husband Justin of Demorest, Georgia, their son Holden; Maxwell Roger Young and his wife Michelle of Aruba, their children, Brook, Sierra and Roger; Lucy Banks and her husband Geoffrey of St. George; brother Gary Young of Owls Head; and sister Catherine Simaitis of Camden, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roger’s Home Going, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 4, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church, 185 Atlantic Highway, Warren. Pastor Scott Townsend will officiate. Private interment will be in the Village Cemetery, South Thomaston. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
