Obituary for Warren Williams

Warren  Williams
THOMASTON - Warren Williams, 97, passed away peacefully, February 9, 2016 in Camden, with his loving family at his side.
Warren was born on October 17, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the Reverend Anson R and Margaret Lister Williams.
He graduated from Norridgewock High School in 1934, attended Colburn Classical Institute, and Bates College which he left to enlist in the US Navy. He served on a mine sweep in Italy and the Great Lakes during World War II. He met Harriet, his beloved wife of 69 years, while his ship was docked in Duluth, Minnesota.
Warren graduated from the University of Maine, Orono with honors in 1948. His career was spent primarily in the food processing industry in Maine. He was a county agent for the Farmer’s Home Administration. Warren and Harriet spent two years in Cebu in the Philippines as Peace Corp volunteers.
They retired to Matinicus Island where Warren very much enjoyed working as a stern man on a lobster boat and serving as the tax collector and Notary Public. Warren and Harriet travelled frequently during their retirement often to Elderhostel programs.
In addition to Harriet, Warren is survived by his daughter Rebecca Williams Wright of Freeport, his adored granddaughter Margaret (Emmie) Wright Carrigan and her husband, Ryan Carrigan, of Durham and a cousin, Lucy Williams DeRoche of Yarmouth. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kay Williams and his brother Paul.
Warren’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care he received from the staff in the Gardens at Quarry Hill.
An hour of visiting will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 p.m., Friday February 12, 2016 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. The Reverend Susan Stonestreet will officiate. Interment will be in spring.
