Wahneta June "June"  Smith
ST. GEORGE - Wahneta June (Dressler) Smith, 81, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Woodlands Assisted Living in Rockland.
Born and raised in Iowa, June came to Jonesport, Maine in 1952 to visit her sister. While there, she met and married her husband of 61 years, Larry W. Smith.
While raising her four children, June worked at the post office and Merrill Trust Bank, both in Jonesport. In June of 1970, June and Larry moved their family to St. George, where she worked as secretary to the town manager for many years. She later worked several years at PenBay Medical Center in Rockport.
June was an active member of the First Baptist Church of St. George at Wiley’s Corner, and was organist and choir member not only in that church, but several other local churches as well. For more than 53 years, she was very active in the Eastern Star at Jonesport, St. George, and in that order’s State organizations.
June liked to camp and fish with her husband, and spent many years camping at MicMac Campground. She loved gardening and kept several gardens in her yard. Her favorite flowers were anything yellow, especially roses.
Other than her beloved husband, Larry, Sr., June is survived her four children, Crystal Hunter, Bonnie and Tom Dean, Larry, Jr. and Alice Smith, Daren Smith; her grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Hunter, Martin Hunter, Courtney and Dan Lattanzi, Kristen Dean, Travis Dean, Brandon and Hannah Smith, Amanda Smith, and April Smith; two great-granddaughters, Angelina Hunter, Isla Lattanzi; her surviving siblings, Muriel and Jerry Kelleher, Derald and Jean Dresslera, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Private services are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
