Obituary for Mary Frances C. Opp

Mary Frances C.  Opp
CAMDEN, MAINE - Mary Frances C. (Perry) Opp, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Mary Frances was born in Rockland, Maine where she attended schools until, as a teenager, she moved with her family to Virginia. There she graduated from Maury High School. She received an Associate’s degree with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William and Mary. She later received a Master’s degree from Purdue University.

Her first job was with the AEC Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island. She then joined Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation in Raritan, NJ, part of the Johnson &Johnson family of companies as a research scientist. She left her job to raise her family and then returned to Johnson & Johnson, retiring after 25 years of service.

Mary Frances was a resident of North Plainfield, NJ for over 50 years. She was active in numerous organizations. She was a 50 year member of the Plainfield Branch of the American Association of University Women, a member of the North Plainfield Woman’s Club, a former board member of the North Plainfield Public Library, and later a member of the Suburban Woman’s Club of South Plainfield, a member of Roadrunners and the North Plainfield Seniors and St. Stephens Anglican Church where she served in various positions on the vestry.

Her love of travel took her to most of the European countries and most of the U.S. She enjoyed reading, cryptograms and crossword puzzles. She loved her grand dogs, Ellie and Carra.

Mary Frances was predeceased by her husband Edward and her son David, and also by her sister Patricia P. Lawrence and step-brother Alfred W. Haynes.

Surviving are her loving daughter Nancy and her husband Edward; beloved niece Cecelia L. Webster of Atlanta, GA and nephew John G. Lawrence, Jr of Fort Payne, AL.

A graveside prayer service will be held in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adult Day Care Center, 872 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807 or to St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 142 Crescent Ave, Plainfield, NJ 07060.
