Obituary for Myron E. Preston

Myron E. Preston
CAMDEN - Myron E. Preston, 87, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, at the Sussman House in Rockport, Tuesday, September 22, 2015. Born in Oxford, Connecticut, March 7, 1928, he was one of seven children of Arthur H. and Amy M. Newman Preston.
As an infant, he moved to Lubec with his family, where he attended local schools. He left school before graduating to help support his family, but later in life in life was proud to earn his GED.
He moved to the Rockland area in 1946 and after his marriage to Katheleen W. Marr, September 21, 1952, made his home in Warren where the couple raised their family. Katheleen died July 11, 1998.
Myron was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Due to the wounds he received and heroic actions he took on the battlefield, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. On August 7th, 2008, he was awarded the Maine Silver Star by Governor John Baldacci. Myron has been a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Korean War Veterans Association.
For more than 37 years, he worked as an Industrial Electrician at the Martin-Marietta Cement Plant in Thomaston, and while working there earned licensing as a Master Electrician. He retired from the cement plant in 1983, and not being able to sit idle, shortly thereafter began employment as an electrician at Camden Health Care Center. He retired from that job in 2002.
While working at the cement plant, over a period of months, Myron’s life was changed as his friend and fellow electrician Howard Meserve witnessed to Myron about God’s changing power. From that time on Myron dedicated his life to his Lord and shared the Gospel Story with everyone he could. He was a founding member and helped build the Calvary Baptist Church in Warren. He served as a Deacon and active member at that church many years.
In recent years, he was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Camden. While attending there, Myron met Jennie Young Pendleton. They were married at Cornerstone, January 15, 2000. Jennie died December 10, 2008.
Throughout his life, Myron enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing horseshoes, and most of all, family get-togethers. An avid History buff, Myron was a voracious reader and always had a book in his hand. His acumen of history knowledge made him unbeatable at trivia games.
Other than his parents and wives, Myron was pre-deceased by all his siblings. He is survived by his children, Kendall E. Preston and his wife Jackie of Mechanic Falls, Carolyn M. Rooks and her husband Saint of Ellenwood, GA, Linda S. Tyler and her husband Ralph of Suffolk, VA, Nancy A. Preston of Cushing; the children of his second wife, Calvin Pendleton of Oxford, Gene Pendleton and his wife Eileene of Southport, NC, Brenda Pendleton of Chanute, KS, Denise Field of Winnabow, NC; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the residents and staff at Camden Hills Villa for being an important part of his life over the past few years. Thankyou also to PenBay Medical Center for the care given over the years, and the Sussman House for caring for him so tenderly during his last days.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, September 28, 2015, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A Home Going Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, at Calvary Baptist Church, 185 Atlantic Highway, Warren. Pastor Timothy Gillam, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, will officiate. Private interment will be at a later date in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sussman House, C/O PenBay Healthcare, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
