Obituary for Betsy McIntyre

Betsy  McIntyre
ROCKPORT - Betsy D. McIntyre, 93, died peacefully, following a brief illness, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Born in Machias, October 10, 1921, she was the daughter of C. Julian and Mildred Watters Dinsmore. As a young girl, Betsy moved with her family to New York where she graduated high school.

While in New York she met Hector McIntyre, and the two were married June 21, 1947 on Staten Island.

While busy raising her son, Mrs. McIntyre also worked as a secretary at Sailors Snug Harbor, a retirement home in Staten Island. Following her husband’s retirement, the couple returned to Maine, settling in Rockport.

Mrs. McIntyre was an active member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Thomaston, the Bridge Club, and the Garden Club.

Predeceased by her husband, Hector; her brother William Dinsmore in January of 2015; and a nephew William Dinsmore, Jr.; Mrs. McIntyre is survived by her son Douglas H. McIntyre and his wife Lorrie of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Andrew and Emilie McIntyre both of Seattle, WA; and a nephew Greg Dinsmore of Atlanta, GA.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, Main Street, Thomaston.

The Reverend Peter Jenks will officiate. Private interment will be held at a later date at Church Hill Cemetery, Machiasport.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, 200 Main Street, Thomaston, Maine 04843.
