Gloria J. Mills Lindsey Porter

Belfast - Gloria J. Mills Lindsey Porter, 90, longtime Rockland resident, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015, at her home with her loving family at her side.
Born in West Rockport, October 18, 1924, she was the daughter of John Q. A. and Elizabeth Davis Mills. Moving to Rockland with her family as a young child, she attended Rockland schools. During her senior year of high school she traveled to Highland Park, Illinois. There on March 2, 1943, she married Raymond A. Lindsey, who had been drafted into the Army. After World War II, the couple made their home and raised their children in Rockland until Mr. Lindsey died on August 27, 1987.
A supportive helpmate to her husband, a homemaker, and a caregiver, Gloria was also involved with the daily lives of her children and grandchildren.
For several years, Gloria, along with her husband Raymond, operated Ray's Boarding Home in Rockland.
As a young child she attended the Pratt Memorial Methodist Church. In 1955 she started attending the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1978 she joined the Worldwide Church of God (now known as Grace Communion International) in Bangor.
Gloria started taking clogging lessons when she was in her sixties. During the 1990s, she was a member of the Schooner Town Cloggers and later the Steppin' Out Cloggers. Gloria enjoyed dancing at Union Fair, Seafoods Festival and Fryeburg Fair. Gloria had the distinction of being the oldest member of Steppin' Out Cloggers, dancing well into her seventies.
On February 14, 2004, Gloria married Cecil R. Porter and moved to Brooks. Most recently she made her home in Belfast.
Predeceased by her first husband, Ray, brother, Lawrence Mills and two sisters, Beatrice Chaples and Virginia Lufkin; Gloria is survived by her husband Cecil; her children, Deloris Page and her husband Bruce of Belfast, Michael Lindsey of Santa Rosa, CA, Joanne Lindsey of Rockland, Janice Hunt and her husband Robert, Jr. of Stone Ridge, VA, Brett Lindsey and his wife Katherine of Wiscasset; eight grandchildren, Linda Foster and her husband John of Searsmont, Jeffrey Page of Belfast, Stephanie Curtis and her husband Steve of Florida, Susan Ward and her husband Dan of Brewer, Karen Canfield and her husband Dan of Rockport, Robert Hunt, III, Ryan Hunt both of Virginia, Miranda Lindsey of Wiscasset; seven great-grandchildren, John Merry, IV, Laura Tennis and her husband Chad, David Curtis, Joshua Curtis and his wife Shay, Cortney Prescott, Dustin Prescott, and Sean Ward, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Caden and Connor Tennis, as well as several nieces, nephews and step-children.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 23rd at West Rockport Cemetery with Pastor James Cook officiating. A reception will follow at 104 Limerock Street, Rockland.
