Obituary for Audrey Hill Kennison (Hill)

Audrey Hill Kennison (Hill)
Rockland - Audrey Hill Kennison, formerly of Warren, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Knox Home in Rockland after a long illness.
Audrey was born on Nov. 1, 1925 in Bath, Maine, the daughter of Mildred Clark Hill and W. Dayton Hill. She graduated from Morse High School and went on to earn degrees from Lasell Junior College and Tufts University, where she attended the Boston School of Occupational Therapy. Following her very happy years at B.S.O.T. Audrey worked for six years, heading up the Occupational Therapy program at the Augusta State Mental Hospital before leaving the workplace to marry and raise a family.
Audrey married William Kennison, of Augusta ME, on July 14, 1956 at Grace Episcopal Church in Bath. Their first child, Mary, was born in May 1957, soon followed by Jane in 1958, and Nancy in 1962. Bill was ordained as a Priest of the Episcopal Church during the early years of their marriage, and Audrey was always at his side as a loving and supportive clergy spouse.
Over the years she continued to be involved in parish life, while raising the girls with Bill and pursuing her own interests, chief among them her love of gardening. She was proud to be a Master Gardener, and to have her beautiful perennial gardens included in Georges River Land Trust’s Gardens of the Watershed tour in 1993. She was a life-long learner, and loved attending Senior College in Belfast, writing poems, building their cottage on Damariscotta Lake, travelling around the country and the world with Bill, and listening to great music.
Audrey was a social person who loved to have friends and family close by, and loved to laugh. Even in the nursing home as her Alzheimer’s disease progressed she was known for her spunky personality, her very sweet and gentle nature, and her great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pre-deceased by Bill, her beloved husband of nearly 54 years, and her brother William Dayton Hill, Audrey is survived by her daughters and their husbands, grandchildren and great-granddaughter: Mary Kennison Taylor and William F., their sons Benjamin Taylor and Caleb Taylor and Ben’s daughter Brigit, all of Portland, Oregon; Jane Bartley Warren and David D. of Brunswick, and their daughter Emily Cowan of Boston; Nancy Kennison Achorn and Bradley M. of Houston, Texas and their children Hannah Achorn of Clinton, New York and Jacob Achorn of Boston; and her niece and nephew, Anne Peaslee of Georgetown, and Leo Hill of Brunswick, and their children.
A service of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at The Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist, 200 Main Street, Thomaston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of Audrey’s favorite charities: The National Children’s Cancer Society; Smile Train; and MADD.
