Obituary for Paul Joseph Kvorjak Jr.

Paul Joseph Kvorjak Jr.
ROCKLAND - Paul J. Kvorjak, Jr., 95, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, July 4, 1920, he was the son of Paul, Sr. and Barbara Mikoioszko Kvorjak. Moving to Ohio as a young child, Paul grew up in Cleveland where he graduated high school. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for six years during World War II. Paul served honorably in both the European and Pacific Theaters, even after his only brother became a casualty of war.

During one deployment, the ship he was on made a stop in Portland where he met a lovely native Maine girl, Florence Flaherty. Returning to his ship he bid her adieu, saying, ‘I’ll see you later.’ Six years later, when he was honorably discharged, Paul returned to Maine. He and Florence were married in Portland where they lived for a brief time before settling in Owls Head.

For more than 30 year Paul was employed as a Coastal Warden with the Department of Inland Sea and Shore Fisheries, now known as Marine Patrol. In 1981 Paul and Florence relocated to their Rockland home when his work territory changed. Paul retired a year later, giving him the opportunity to pursue his passion for golf. For over 15 years he worked part-time at the Samoset Golf Course where he could be found ‘directing traffic’, parking carts, and enjoying the many friendships he made there. Lunch at the Clubhouse Grille on the 18th Hole was another favorite pastime.

Paul was an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, rising to 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He gave of his time and efforts, serving on the board for Stella Maris Home; and often volunteered driving local cancer patients to appointments in Portland. He had a heart for giving, and loved doing things for others.

He will be greatly missed by his family.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Florence in 2008; an infant daughter, Mary Kvorjak; his brother Michael Kvorjak; and a sister Maryann Vavrina; Paul is survived by his children, Paul Kvorjak, III of Owls Head, Karen Mills of South Thomaston, Mike Kvorjak and his wife Rose of Centerville, OH, David Kvorjak of Owls Head, Brian Kvorjak of Rockland; two sisters, Dorothy Machovich, Irene Betz, both of Cleveland, OH; nine grandchildren, David Mills of Black Canyon City, Arizona, Matthew Mills and his wife Robin of Owls Head, Patrick Mills and his wife Stephanie of Brunswick, Christopher Mills and his wife Tracy of Warren, Maggie Kvorjak of Centerville, Ohio, Michelle Simon and her husband Michael of Columbus, OH, Shannon Kvorjak of Columbus, OH, Amber Kvorjak and her companion Tim Wallace of Boston, MA, Vernon Kvorjak and his fiancée Lindsey of South Thomaston; eight great-grandchildren, Marshell Mills, Miranda Robinson, Ezra Mills, Henry Mills, Madison Mills, Ryan Mills, Trace Kaufman, Tanner Kaufman; and great-great-grandchildren, Michael Smith, and Aubrey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
