Maynard C.  Ingraham Jr.
ROCKPORT - Maynard C. Ingraham, 5th generation Rockport resident and community leader, passed away August 14th at Bartlett Woods in Rockland. He was 90 years old.

Maynard married Joyce Mitchell on October 26, 1947. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughter, Lynn I. Johnson and her husband, Dwight, of Rockport; and his 2 grandchildren, Peter I. Johnson and his wife, Laura, of Rockport, and Emily I. Lafleur and her husband, Adam, of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Born December 29, 1924, he was the son of Maynard C. and Marion E. Ingraham. He graduated from Rockport High School and was in the 3rd class to graduate from Maine Maritime Academy. He served in the Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1946 as a 3rd and 2nd mate on the vessel the Cape Matapan with the United States Lines.

After returning from sea, he attended Bryant & Stratton College in Boston. He then joined his family’s business, Enos E. Ingraham Co., Rockport’s general store, in 1947 that he operated until 1975. He was a Notary Public from 1947 to 2010 and married over 700 couples.

After selling the family business, Maynard became the co-owner and President of MIST Associates, Real Estate Developers, and developed 3 housing subdivisions in Rockport. He was also the designated broker for MIST Real Estate Agency, earning the Pen Bay Board of Realtor’s “Realtor of the Year” award in 1996.

Maynard was a real estate appraiser for over 30 years, starting the company Ingraham Associates. He was joined in appraising by his son-in-law in 1988. Maynard was proud to have his grandson join the company after his retirement.

Maynard was involved in many community activities. He was elected to the inaugural MSAD #28 Board of Directors, serving 5 years. He was elected to the Rockport Selectboard, serving 5 years. He served on the Building Committee for Camden Hills Regional High School. He was Past President of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce as well as past Chair of the Rockport Republican party. He served on Advisory Committees for both Depositors Trust Co. and Key Trust Co. He served on the Board of Trustees of Vesper Hill Children’s Chapel for many years.

Maynard was among the first to receive the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce “Townsperson of the Year” award in 1982.

A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the St. Paul’s Lodge of Masons No. 82, Rockport and the Rockland Valley Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers donations in Maynard’s memory may be made to Chestnut Street Baptist Church’s steeple renovation project or to the charity of one’s choice. Steeple Fund donations may be to CSBC Steeple Fund and mailed to Chestnut Street Baptist Church, P. O. Box 833, Camden, Maine 04843.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Laurence for his years of care and friendship and the staff at Bartlett Woods for their care and compassion in his last years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 24, 2015, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Adam Kohlstrom will officiate. A reception will follow at the funeral home’s 104 Limerock reception center. Private interment will be in Seaview Cemetery, Rockport.
