ROCKLAND - Doris M. Brackett, 94, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.

Born January 9, 1921, she was the daughter of Percy and Lottie Richardson Dennison. Educated in Tenants Harbor. She received her GED while in Italy.

Doris married Arthur Brackett on June 21, 1947. Together they made their home in Rockland until Mr. Brackett’s death in 1969.

For many years Doris was employed at Holmes Packing Company as a fish cutter. She was also a fixture at Aston’s Coffee Shop on Main Street and later drove taxi for Woods Taxi in Rockland.

Always one to keep active, Doris enjoyed completing jig-saw puzzles, reading and singing and dancing. She was an avid Bingo player and never missed the chance to go for a ride and picnic with her niece and nephews. Mrs. Brackett was also a world traveler, having lived for several years with her son in Hawaii, Germany, Italy and all over the United States.

For many years Mrs. Brackett lived at the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland where she made many good friends. For the past six years she has resided at the Knox Center for Long Term Care. Her family said she felt at home there and they were grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff. They truly made a difference in the last years of her life.

Predeceased by her husband; two sons Charles Brackett, Thomas Brackett; her siblings, Marion Dennison, Betty Rytky, Norman Dennison; and two special friends Virginia Stoddard and Charlie Harriman; Mrs. Brackett is survived by her six daughters, Cherry Smallwood and her husband Brian of Charlotte, NC, Donna Rackliff and her husband Dan of South Thomaston, Beatrice Collins and her husband Thomas of Waldoboro, Ann Eagle and her husband Vernon of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Jean Poling and her husband Michael of Boynton Beach, FL, Joan Whitefield and her husband Calvin of Gunbarrel City, Texas; a sister-in-law Gladys Dennison of South Thomaston; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Brackett will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at the Village Cemetery, South Thomaston.
