OWLS HEAD, MAINE - Kenneth Lester Dureault, 65, of Owl’s Head Maine and longtime resident of Westford, Massachusetts died peacefully Saturday, July 18th after a lengthy illness. He married the true love of his life Susan (Pehrson) (Swimm) Dureault nearly a dozen years ago, and retired just this past fall to Maine.
Ken was a master Heavy Equipment Operator for most of his life for Johnson Landscaping in Westford. His skills as an operator was second only to his innate talents as a musician. Ken could make any musical instrument sing, especially the honky-tonk piano. When Kenny played, toes tapped, hands clapped and a good time was had by all.
Besides his wife, Ken is survived by his children Dawn Atwood and her husband Timothy of Lawrence, Sherry Carolyn and her husband Paul of Salem NH, and his son, Kenneth, Jr. of Westford. He also was the step father to Heather Grammaticas, her husband Peter of Franklin, MA and Justin Swimm of Westford. Ken was Grampa to Brandon, Samantha and Jarred Atwood; Joshua Carolyn; Alex and Lauren Grammaticas, and Great Grampa to Cayden Atwood, all who also survive him.
Ken was the eldest of 11 children and leaves behind brothers Bruce Dureault of Palm Bay, FL; Brian Dureault of Haverhill, MA; sisters Karen Boisjoly and her husband Rick of Owl’s Head; Susan McGregor Horn and her husband Harry; Donna Dureault and her husband Kevin Baur; Catherine Schoenenberger and her husband Keith all of Westford; Gail Johnson and her husband Keith Cobleigh of Pepperell, MA; step-father Robert W. Johnson of Westford; step-brother Robert E. Johnson and his wife Karen of Westford; step-sister Wendy Dutile and her husband Peter of Dracut.
Ken was predeceased by his father Ernest Dureault, mother Beverly (Nickles) Johnson, and step-brother Wesley Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, 336 Limerock Street, Rockland, Maine.
