Donald M "Donnie"  Drake Jr.
THOMASTON – Donald M. Drake, Jr., 57, died Friday, June 12, 2015, surrounded by his family, at Sussman Hospice House in Rockport, after a long illness.
Born in Camden, July 4, 1957, he was the son of Donald M. Sr., and Barbara Thorndike Drake. While growing up in Rockport, he attended local schools and was a 1976 graduate of Camden Rockport High School. He attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical School in South Portland.
Since a young age, Donnie worked with his father in the family businesses of Union Street Exxon in Rockland and later Creek Hill Service Center, Inc. in Thomaston. He continued working in that business many years.
Donnie’s greatest passion was being on the water and he was happiest when working on his boat ‘Miss Katie’.
For several years, Donnie and his father enjoyed stock racing together as a father/son race team, with each of their cars sponsored by Creek Hill Service Center, Inc.
Donnie was a proud and devoted grampy who loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents of Rockport, Donnie is survived by one daughter, Kaitlyn Powers and her husband Jonathan of Union; two sisters, Debra E. Drake of Rockville, Victoria M. Vlautin and her husband John of Dove Canyon, CA; two granddaughters, Natalie-Mae and Emma-Jean; three nephews, Christopher Lawton and his wife Sarah Wickenden, Drake Vlautin, William Vlautin; several great-nephews; one aunt, Donna Thorndike; a close family friend David Ball; as well as many other extended family members.
A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Cross overlooking the Public Landing in Thomaston. The Reverend Dr. David English will officiate. Parking will be available in the upper Lyman – Morse parking lot. Private interment will be in West Rockport Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856, or Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
