SOUTH THOMASTON - Constance W. Baum, 87, widow of James G. Baum, Jr., died peacefully at her home, Monday, May 11, 2015.
Born in Rockland, December 15, 1927, she was the daughter of Elmer and Grace Grey Warren. Connie began school in Rockland; but after moving to Portland as a teen, graduated from Portland High School, class of 1945.
She began her career working in banking while living in Somerville, Massachusetts. Returning to Rockland, she met her future husband, James G. Baum, Jr. They were married at Rockland, February 25, 1950.
That same year the Baums moved to Washington, D.C., where Connie began employment with a stock brokerage firm. She later joined the same firm as her husband, and ultimately advanced to become Comptroller of that company, Folger, Nolan, Fleming & Douglas, Inc., where her husband served as Vice President. The Baums enjoyed a dual retirement in 1988.
From 1964 to 1990, they resided in Fort Washington, MD, where Connie was an active member of the Oxen Hill Methodist Church.
In 1990, with her husband, Connie moved to South Thomaston, where they built their retirement home.
Since moving here she was active in the Peoples United Methodist Church of South Thomaston. She and her husband enjoyed fishing together every weekend. She loved animals and enjoyed many pets over the years. On Sunday afternoons, Connie became an ardent football fan. While living in the DC area, she religiously followed the Washington Redskins; and after retiring to South Thomaston, her allegiance turned to the New England Patriots. She was able to quote ‘stats’ from those teams in detail.
Most recently, Connie often expressed her gratitude for the loving care she received from her care givers, who provided her the opportunity to stay in her own home.
Connie was pre-deceased by her husband Jim in 2007.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Village Cemetery, Dublin Road, South Thomaston. The Reverend Michelle Wiley will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
