ROCKPORT - Mary B. Hawes Dennison, 91, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family, Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home.

Born in Rockport, July 16, 1923, Mary was the daughter of Frank and Emma Kent Hawes of Rockport. Mary had fifteen siblings to share in her life, setting the tone for her own family that would continue to be her focus as she grew up.

On June 20, 1942 Mary married her beloved Cecil E. Dennison. Together they had five children, and Mary tended to the needs of her family while she awaited the return of her beloved husband after WWII. One fine October day as she looked down the street, she saw the figure of an Army soldier. As he came closer, she shouted to her mother ‘That's my Cecil.’ She ran to him, and as they embraced, there was great joy.

Together they shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. He was her one true love. After his passing she continued to care for her family. In addition to tending to house work, she worked outside of the home at Port Clyde Canning Company, Camden Health Care Center and helped care for local elderly residents.

Mary was a women of integrity, faith, compassion, humor. She had a strong work ethic and an immeasurable love that she shared with those who knew her best. She was always available to those in need, whether family or friend, with a word of encouragement, a shoulder to cry on and a warm hug.

After she retired, her hobbies and interests included tending her flower gardens, bird watching, cooking great meals, and baking fabulous pies. She took great pride in maintaining the home she loved and caring for those that came to share it with her. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox, and was pleased to have the opportunity to travel to Boston to see her first game at Fenway when she was in her 80s.

Her mind was sharp and her humor was brilliant. She was an avid reader and remarkable storyteller; having lived almost 92 years, she had many to choose from.

Mary attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rockport until her health wouldn't allow it. She remained steadfast in her faith which provided her much comfort in difficult and trying times that came about later in life. The family is grateful that Mary's wishes were honored, as she stated that she wanted to remain in her home of sixty-three years and to pass peacefully in her own bed.

Predeceased by her husband Cecil E. Dennison; fourteen siblings; a grandson David W. Aston; great-grandson Nicholas Bartlett; and son-in-law Dennis Daniello, Sr.; Mary is survived by her children, Carol Swafford of Georgia, Linda Greenlaw and husband of Rockport, Cecil Dennison, Jr. and wife Cindy of Lincolnville, Joyce Daniello of Gray, Darlene Richards and husband Duane of Camden; her granddaughter, Cheryl Gardner, whom she raised as a daughter, giving her the chance to learn what a true loving mother could be; she was blessed with eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Nettie Salo and husband Arvo of Owls Head; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She also loved her cat, Pepperlina.

On the evening of April 27th God decided it was time to rest and her spirit soared to Heaven. Mary’s family finds comfort knowing that she is once again with her beloved Cecil; and this time, as she got closer, he greeted her and shouted ‘That's my Mary!’ They embraced and again their familiar joy and enduring love continues for an eternity.

She will be greatly missed and held close in the hearts of her family that were there to love and comfort her in the latter part of her life. The family appreciates the care provided by caregivers and nurses that came to love her.

They mourn her passing while celebrating her life. A private graveside service will be held at Sea View Cemetery in Rockport.
