CAMDEN – Donald D. Luneau, 79, died peacefully, surrounded by family, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born in Concord, New Hampshire, October 26, 1935, he was the son of George and Lura Baker Luneau. As a young boy he moved with his family to Hartford, Connecticut where he was raised and attended schools.

After attending Hartford High School, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving overseas, including in Japan, Korea and Turkey.

Returning to the States, Don met Barbara Andrews. The two were married on October 19, 1957 in Hartford. Together they moved to Florida for a brief time before returning to Connecticut. Once home, Don opened City Glass in Hartford. A hard worker all his life, he was proud to also operate several catering trucks as well as co-owning the V.I.A. Restaurant and Lounge.

When their only daughter graduated high school, Don and Barb decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Connecticut and moved to Barb’s home state of Maine. Here they bought their first home in Owls Head until buying their permanent home on Chickawaukie Lake, next to Don’s beloved Rockland Golf Course. His daughter said golf was his passion and he often played two rounds of 18 holes back to back. As a young boy he served as a caddy to several golf pros to earn money to play on his own. Over the years he honed his skills and he was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel the U.S. playing on some of the most prestigious courses.

Don took great pride in restoring vintage automobiles, and was especially proud of his maroon 1967 Mustang with white leather seats.

Don’s kind heart and smiling face were a fixture behind the counter, first at E.C. Hart Lumber and later when that store became E.B.S. He made many friends throughout his years there and was helpful to all who met him.

He was always up for a good political debate, and he was never one to waiver on his political opinions. That was of course because his opinion was the correct one!

Don will be remembered for the dignity and respect for others with which he lived his life. Never one to demand respect, he earned it due to his kind nature and gentle spirit. He was truly a gentleman.

Predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1998; and two brothers, Robert and Ronald Luneau; Don is survived by his daughter Alison Johnson; one grandson Cory Johnson, both of Camden; two sisters, Jean Dillard and her husband Zachary of Tuscon, Arizona, Aline Roman Bowman and her husband Donald of Virginia; a brother Richard Luneau and his wife Jan of Connecticut; two sisters-in-law Sue Luneau and Beverly Luneau; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of Don’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 22, 2015 at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
