THOMASTON - Sally Burgess Anderson, 72, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at Quarry Hill in Camden, after an extended illness.
Born in Augusta, April 17, 1942, she was the daughter of James K. 'Jake', Sr. and Frances M. Woodside Burgess. While growing up in Hallowell, she was educated in local schools and was 1960 graduate of Hallowell High School.
On June 25, 1966, she married William F. Crockett, Jr. in Augusta. The couple moved to Thomaston, where Bill worked as a corrections officer at Maine State Prison. They resided in Thomaston all their married lives until Bill’s death, March 1, 1981. After finding love again, she married Walter A. Anderson, February 14, 1988. The Anderson’s have lived in Thomaston since that time.
Sally worked as a secretary with the State of Maine Department of Corrections. She later worked in the office of Stuart Burgess, Attorney at Law.
For more than 40 years, Sally enjoyed coffee every Wednesday, with her ‘Club Girlfriends’, which included Joan Harjula, Betsy Fyler, Kay Sylvester, Tobey Lombardo, Marion Martin, Melinda Lindsey and Betty Kiezer. She also loved tole painting and playing dice games with good friends Nancy Crockett, Mary Woods and Ilene Rackliff.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, and was a member of the Finnish Congregational Church, South Thomaston.
Other than her parents and first husband, Sally was pre-deceased by a brother James K. 'Jimmy' Burgess, Jr. She is survived by her husband Walter A. Anderson of Thomaston; her daughter Michelle Young and her husband Scott of Tenants Harbor; a step-son Brad Anderson and his wife Tammy of Camden; a brother William Burgess and his wife Liz of Augusta; two sisters, Margaret Leach and her husband Paul of Belgrade, Janis Parent and her husband Donald of Topsham; a sister-in-law, Ginny Burgess of Chelsea; four grandchildren, Garrett Young, Gavin Young, Aubrey Anderson, Amos Anderson; two step-grandchildren Amberlie and Shantel Gibson; as well as several step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A shore-side gathering in celebration of Sally’s life is planned for July and will be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Finnish Congregational Church, P.O. Box 293, South Thomaston, ME 04858.
