Obituary for Harold Robert Falla

Harold Robert Falla
OWLS HEAD - Harold R. ‘Bud’ Falla, 88, died peacefully, Friday, February 27, 2015 at Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta, following a period of declining health.

Born at Milford, New Hampshire, February 5, 1927, he was the son of Albion and Lila Drake Falla. Bud moved to Maine as a young man and attended St. George High School.

Joining the Navy he served on the Navy Ship USS Consolation during World War II and he also served later in Korea. Upon his honorable discharged, Bud returned home, working in the logging and seining industries. Bud began his career with Pratt and Whitney in 1953. For 30 years he worked as a foreman there, retiring in 1983.

In April of 1960, Bud married Kathleen ‘Kay’ Hall in Dresden. Together they made their home in Connecticut until Kay retired in 1987. The couple later relocated to Owls Head, where they bought their home and have since resided.

Bud loved the outdoors, especially hunting trips with ‘The Gang’. Fishing, golfing, bowling and dancing were also favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Kinney-Melquist American Legion Post 32 in Tenants Harbor and the St. George Odd Fellows I.O.O.F Lodge #132.

He took great pride in his yard, always keeping it immaculately clipped. He spent hours mowing it to perfection, always taking care to bag the clippings. He also had a great sense of humor and will be remembered as quite the jokester. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his wife, Kay Falla in 2005, brother Gerald Falla in 1920, brother-in-law Rev. Doug W. Auld, niece Corinne Auld and nephew Doug G. Auld all formerly of Massachusetts; as well as two special friends, Don Banks and Richard Sleeth both formerly of Connecticut.

Survivors include, his sisters, Arlene Auld of West Yarmouth, MA, Beverly and her husband Bob Faustini of St. George. Nephew Robert J. Faustini of St. George and niece Rachael Davis and her husband Harvey of Rockland; great-nieces, Lindsay Faustini of Cushing, Deirdre Auld of Boston, MA; great-nephews, Nick Faustini of Warren, DJ Auld of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law Fred Hall of Dresden; sister-im-laws, Nancy Gale of PA, Charlotte Hall of Dresden, Jeanie VanOverstaten Buffalo, NY and Dottie Picard of Dresden; special friends, Joyce Banks and Breda Sleeth both of Connecticut, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice for their caring support, and the VA Medical Foster Home Care Program at the home of caregivers and second family Kelly Carr and Tim Wilson of Thomaston for their amazing care, love and support of Bud. The family also thanks the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta (A Company) for their excellent care and hospice services in his final days.

A graveside service in Richmond with Military Honors will be announced in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. #132, P.O. Box 315, Tenants Harbor, Maine 04860.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
