Obituary for Betty Kreckel Rordam

Betty Kreckel Rordam
ST. GEORGE-Betty Kreckel Rordam passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, January 7, 2015.
She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jan. 13, 1919, the daughter of Alma Paddock Kreckel and Frederick Arthur Kreckel. She was a 1940 graduate of Sophie Newcomb College, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.

In May, 1941 she married Albert Harold Rordam in New Orleans where they happily raised three children.
In New Orleans, she was an active member of Third (and later Fourth) Church of Christ, Scientist, the Cottage Planters Garden Club, the AAUW of New Orleans and the Adelme Rauch Art group. She moved to Maine in 1994 where she designed her “dream” home in St. George, down the road from her daughter. She loved the Maine garden she developed at her home. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist,
Camden, ME and later a member of the Christian Science Society, Rockport, ME. She pursued her interest in art as a member of the Monday Night Art Group in Tenants Harbor, ME and participated in art shows in mid-coast Maine and in New Orleans. She was a member of the Mid-Coast Branch of the AAUW, a supporter of the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum and a member of the Martinsville Grange.

She enjoyed travelling and spent part of each year with her son and his family in Blacksburg, Virginia where she became an important part of the Blacksburg community. She also cherished her trips to her native New Orleans where she visited with family and friends. Her husband, Albert, and her son, Claude, predeceased her. She is survived by her son Ron F. Rordam and his wife Mary, of Blacksburg VA; her daughter Carol R. Emery and her husband, David, of Tenants Harbor, ME; her daughter-in-law Delores Rordam of Slidell, LA; and grandsons Scott Rordam, Christian Rordam, A. Gardner Rordam and his wife, Mary Katherine, Landon Rordam and Albert Emery; and great-grandchildren Taylor Rordam, and twins Ava and Alex Rordam. Her very dear friend, the Rev. Richard W. Rowland, of Covington, LA, and other wonderful friends and family survive her.

A service will be held in the spring in New Orleans, where she will be interred with her husband of 38 years. Donations in her memory can be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1 Central St. Camden, ME, 04843, St. George Youth & Scouting, P.O.
