Obituary for Wayne Allen Sirois

Wayne Allen Sirois
THOMASTON - Wayne A. Sirois, 64, died peacefully at home, following a brief illness, Wednesday, October 22, 2014. His loving family was at his side.

Born July 19, 1950 in Skowhegan, he was the son of Able and Doris Vigue Sirois. Wayne grew up on Halifax Street in Winslow, and was a 1968 graduate of Winslow High School. Following graduation he attended Thomas College and later University of Maine at Farmington where he was working towards a teaching degree.

On June 26, 1981, Wayne married Paula Houle in Vassalboro. Together they resided in South China for two years where Wayne was employed with the Cianbro Corporation. After that company purchased the Thomaston Cement Plant, the couple relocated their young family to Thomaston where they have since resided. For exactly 30 years, Wayne was employed as a shift foreman at Dragon Cement. His family said he cared greatly for his co-workers and missed them all after retiring. The guidance and wisdom he provided caused many of them to consider him like a brother or father-figure.

An avid golfer, Wayne was a long time member of the Goose River Golf Course. He proudly displayed his score cards on a beautiful coffee table he built by hand. He was a skilled wood-worker and made much of the furniture seen in his home. Fishing with family at Egg Pond in Lincoln was another favorite pastime.

Family was Wayne’s number one priority. When his children were younger, he never missed a sporting event or drama production. Most recently he has found great joy in attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. He loved family gatherings at holidays and birthdays and during his last few days, he took comfort in being surrounded by the people he loved. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his parents; a brother Daniel Sirois; and a nephew Tucker Sirois; Wayne is survived by his wife Paula of Thomaston; his sons, Matthew Sirois and his wife Signe of Seattle, WA, Jeff Sirois and his wife Sharon of Winslow; his daughter Karrie Ouellette and her husband Jim of Holden; his brother Don Sirois and his wife Lisa; sister Jean Breton and her husband Ron, all of South China; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Hannah, MacKenzie, Ramona and Alec Sirois; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland and Maine Center for Cancer Medicine in Bath and Brunswick, for the excellent care they provided.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, October 27, 2014 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland. The Reverend Richard Malo will officiate. A reception will follow immediately at 104 Limerock, adjacent to the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either, Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841, or Camden Animal Rescue League, (PAWS) P.O. Box 707, Rockport, Maine 04856.
