Obituary for Margaret Alice Sheehan

Margaret Alice Sheehan
ROCKLAND - Margaret Alice Sheehan, 96, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born in Kowloon, China, May 1, 1918, she was the daughter of Frank and Ethel Yaksol Mohler. Margaret attended Springfield College and studied teaching. On December 18, 1942, she married Burt Charles Sheehan in Springfield, Massachusetts. Together they had three children, Gary, Candy and Shari. Margaret was known by many names, Migs, Moppy, Mop-Mop, Mopster, and had many roles, wife, mother, friend, teacher, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Burt in 1981 as well as her brother John.

Until the birth of her first child, Gary, Migs taught at a private school in New York. She continued to pursue her love of teaching through skiing instruction at Pleasant Mountain, was a Girl Scout leader and opened her home to many American Field Service students.

Migs and Burt moved from Westford, MA to Maine in 1968 and settled in Winslow. Eventually they moved to a beautiful home on China Lake. They loved the peacefulness of the lake, watching the loons, boating, ice-fishing, and taking walks in the woods with their dogs. Following the death of her husband, Migs remained at the lake house for a few more years, later moving to Rockport to be closer to her daughter Candy. She lived in Megunticook Apartments for 20 years. The last several years of her life she lived at Woodlands in Rockland.

She will be fondly remembered for her love of life, her strength, and her genuinely happy nature which she maintained throughout her 96 years. Migs always filled the room with her special songs and infectious giggles. If you would like to pay tribute to Margaret, her family invites you to sing a song, or bake cookies for someone you love.

Margaret is survived by her three children and their spouses, Gary and Cheryl Sheehan of Wells, Candy and Norman Hutchison of Rockport, Shari and John Collins of Madison, CT; as well as seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM at High Mountain Hall in Camden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PAWS Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, Maine 04856.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
